What is Larimar?
by sarah k grundy
Larimar is the stone of the seas. Larimar carries the energy of the ocean, the ancient continent of Atlantis, mermaids, dolphins, and other sea life from a nostalgic time long ago. It has a way of bringing us back to our true ourselves, our true loves.
Today, it can only be found in one small part of the world — in the heart of Bahoruco's mountains on the island of Dominican Republic.
Larimar is a rare blue and white variety of silicate mineral pectolite. The unique volcanic blue is copper and also red hematite. Born of fire, water, erupting lava, and the earth cracking open, it was discovered because an earthquake shook it loose sending it tumbling down a mountain into the sea where it was found by locals in a small island mountain town.
Before humanity roamed the earth, the ocean was here. Full of salt and sea life, minerals, and organic matter — the sea ruled our planet and we still rely on it for our survival to this day. The ocean interacts with the moon, and is the main source of everything that exists.
Minerals formed into stones, clusters, or crystals from various events in the ocean, on land, and with lava, or fire — The formations are all very much alive. They respond to touch, react to energy, and emotions, carry information, technology, healing, and imbibe vibrations like sound.
Of all the minerals and organic life that make it clear they are alive, Larimar is the one most in tune with the human body.
You will notice a visible, physical change in Larimar the more you hold it, wash it, carry it, and care for it. Colors change, inclusions surface, swirls of blue deepen and appear. Reflections of the ocean arise and a bond grows between you and the stone, while blockages and imbalances melt away. It’s not instantaneous, like any relationship, it takes time to connect and harmonize with a piece.
