Pulled Out to Sea 5: sea sponges

by sarah k grundy

It’s the little things that transport us back to the sea. Soft, smelling, and feeling like the ocean, sea sponges have naturally occurring enzymes, and minerals, and are hypoallergenic. Unlike many loofahs often made with all sorts of synthetic materials, as well as being magnets for bacteria, sea sponges are antibacterial and will eventually decompose on their own.

They’re multi-cellular aquatic animals, called “the sister group of all other animals”. These sisters are alive and found with a 100 feet down dive into the deep sea.

These Sea Sponges are ecologically harvested by diver @ecobeachbabe locally in Florida.
